Looking after our freshers - Springboards

Published:
We've all been through it and know exactly how it feels moving from sixth form/college or a gap year to university. Yes it can be daunting but don’t worry as part of the Springboards team, I and the rest of my team will do our best to answer your queries, give advice and ensure your transition this year is as smooth as possible

Please visit the Springboards project website but first, here is some information about how the project can help our new first-year students.

Are you excited to begin university, but anxious about making that first leap? Looking forward to new experiences but worried about how you’ll fit everything in and make new friends? Is your head bursting with questions about what university life will be like, how long will lectures be, how much free time will you have, what modules will you take, not to mention what do you pack for moving in, where will you hang out, what societies can you join and what’s the cheapest way to travel around London?

We’ve all been through that restless apprehensive mode before moving to university and here in Geography we want our students to feel at home in the School, the university and London, as soon as possible. Now in its fourth year, the Springboards Project is an initiative run by our students for our new students to support the move to university life and study, and help you to feel confident about taking that big step from school to university.

This year’s Springboards team consists of four enthusiastic geographers and environmental scientists – two of whom are veterans from last year’s scheme. Meet the team here.

Over the summer Springboards will be posting blogs to help you to prepare for university, on topics like commuting to university, accommodation, the difference between studying for A-levels and a university degree, what to pack, and about the amazing field trips you can go on. Please make sure you come along to our events such as the Treasure Hunt and the Geography Quiz that we will be hosting alongside the Geography Society during Welcome Week. Don't forget to say hello and ask us questions! Got questions already? No problem - contact us either through Facebook or Twitter and we'll be happy to help!

Looking forward to meeting you all!

The Springboards Team ☺
